Uprising in Hungary
Hungarians gathered around a toppled Statue of Stalin.
This was a spontaneous uprising
amongst the people of Hungary. They revolted against the People’s Republic of Hungary and its Soviet-enforced policies. It began at a student demonstration in which a body of over a thousand students marched past Budapest to the Parliament building. A student delegation entered the radio building in attempt to broadcast its demands, but it was detained. The followers outside demanded the delegation's release, and thus were fired upon by State Security Police. The news of this violence against the people spread and the country responded with violence. It was not successful and only made the Stalin and the Soviets crack down harder in the end once they recaptured all of the Hungarian revolt.
